How to split a long video for WhatsApp Status on a PC (free)

Post a long video to your Status in parts — in the right order, in original quality, without cutting a word in half.

WhatsApp Status plays each video only up to a set length, so a longer video has to be posted in parts. Cutting it by hand in an editor is slow, the parts come out uneven, and a cut often lands in the middle of a word.

This guide shows how to split any video into equal parts on a Windows PC in a few seconds, free, using Zenra Video Splitter. The same steps work for YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels.

What you need

  • A Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC (64-bit).
  • Zenra Video Splitter — free, with no watermark and no sign-up.
  • Your video. MP4, MKV, MOV, AVI, WEBM and most other video files work.

Step by step

  1. Install the app. Download it from the product page and run the installer. If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway — new apps without a paid certificate show this once.
  2. Select your video. Click Browse, or drag the video onto the app.
  3. Type the number of clips. The app shows how long each clip will be, so you can pick a number that fits your Status.
  4. Choose a folder. Your video's folder is filled in for you. The clips are saved in a new folder named after the video.
  5. Press Split Video. A 20-minute video splits into 20 clips in a few seconds. Click Open Folder to see them.

How many parts should you use?

Divide the length of your video by the longest clip your Status allows, and round up. For example, a 10-minute video with a one-minute limit needs at least 10 parts.

When your clips come out close to a 60- or 90-second limit — or 3 minutes for Shorts and Reels — the splitter makes sure no clip goes over it, so WhatsApp never trims the end of a part.

Why the quality stays the same

Most video splitters re-encode the whole video, which takes time and softens the picture. Zenra Video Splitter copies the clips straight from your original file in most cases, so they look exactly like it. Only when a video's structure needs it are a few frames at a cut re-encoded, at very high quality.

It also moves each cut to a natural pause, so nobody's sentence is cut in half between two parts.

Post the parts in order

  • Move the clips to your phone — with a USB cable or the cloud folder you already use.
  • Post part 1 first. Status shows updates in the order you post them.
  • Make the first part strong: it decides whether people keep watching.

Everything happens on your PC: nothing is uploaded, and there's no watermark on your clips.
